The new addition to the school includes classrooms and administrative office space. We moved in and officially began using the facility on December 1, 2008
What is housed in the new building?
Kindergarten, First, Second and Third grades are on the ground floor; the offices and first aid room are also in the new building. For now the second floor will remain unfinished.
What happens to the existing building?
On the lower level of the 1921 building, the pre-school and pre-kindergarten received a complete makeover. The three-year-olds continue to meet in the current room--their program has been expanded to three half-days a week. The four-year-olds meet in the old kindergarten room, and their program is expanded to five half-days a week. The extra hours allow for stronger retention and familiarity with foundational material as they prepare for full-day kindergarten.
The main floor of the 1921 building has two rooms open from the transition. One room became the library. Bookshelves that were originally built for the library were gathered in this central and accessible location. The other room on the main floor is set up with large tables and storage cabinets for use with art and science projects.
The upstairs also had one room open for new use, moving the computer lab into the school. The classroom behind the stage is now utilized for band.
