Betsy grew up in Lafayette County, Missouri and graduated from Higginsville High School in 1968. In 1972, she graduated from college with a B.A. in Education with a double major of Physical Education and Art. In 1972, Betsy began teaching and coaching at Knob Noster High School, and in the spring of 1973 she married her husband, Ken. In the spring of 1974, Betsy moved to Chanute, KS and served as Elementary Art Coordinator for the district for three years. In 1976, Betsy and Ken were blessed with their fist son. In 1977, they moved to Albany, Georgia where, in 1978, their second son was born. In 1979, Betsy and Ken moved back to Missouri. In 1983, their third son was born. In 1985, Betsy began teaching in Warrensburg, MO and completed her masters degree in 1989. Betsy continue to teach full-time until she retired in 2008. Upon retirement, Betsy was hired part-time to teach art at St. Paul's.
