BLUE JAYS
St. Paul’s uses sports and extracurricular activities to enhance the learning experience of students.
BLUE JAY EXTRACURRICULARS
Fifth grade students are required to take part in band as part of the regular school day schedule. Grades 6–8 students are given the option to continue playing in band, which meets at 7:45 am prior to the school day.
The season begins in August and ends in October with one 5–8th grade team. The team regularly participates in several season tournaments.
From mid-August through mid-November, Lady Jays are encouraged to participate on our school’s 5–6 or 7–8 volleyball teams. St. Paul’s plays area Lutheran, Catholic, and public schools in regular-season games. We participate in local and regional tournaments during the season. Often our 7–8th grade team attends the Lutheran School Association of Missouri (LSAM) tournament held in Jefferson City at the beginning of November.
Through an agreement with CHS and MSHSAA, students may elect to play football for the Concordia Orioles from 6–8th grade. The fees for football are split among the students who decide to participate.
Beginning in mid-November and continuing through early March, St. Paul’s Lutheran School athletes participate in 4 levels of basketball: 5–6 girls’ team, 5–6 boys’ team, 7–8 girls’ team, and 7–8 boys’ team. Teams participate in several tournaments throughout the season. The 7–8 seasons frequently conclude with the LSAM Tournament held in Jefferson City, MO.
When enough interest is shown and participation is desired, we have cheerleading during our winter basketball season. Students in grades 5–8 are encouraged to participate. The squad is typically comprised of girls; however, if a boy is interested, he would be allowed to join the squad.
Our Spring sport is a very short track season for all students in grades 4–8. Students participate in either their grade level or a grade level higher in track and field events.
As opportunities and interests arise, St. Paul’s Blue Jays participate in activities such as Bible Bowl, Academic Bowl, Spelling Bee, cross-country, Concordia Music Conservatory lessons and ensembles, and other extra-curricular activities.
